Thomas Gainsborough (14 May 1727 – 2 August 1788) was an English portrait and landscape painter. Some of his most popular paintings include: "The Blue Boy", "The Market
Cart" (Tate Gallery, London), "The Wood Gatherers", and "Robert Andrews
and Mary, His Wife". Gainsboroug is credited (with Richard Wilson) as the originator of the 18th century British landscape school.
